Jet Black
Fine even black with a faint mineral speckle.

Specification
The detail buyers ask for first.
A fine, even black with a faint mineral speckle that reads as solid black from two metres. It is the sensible choice for large floor areas, where paying Absolute Black prices for a surface nobody inspects from 300 mm is hard to justify.

Jet Black in detail
Where it makes sense, and where it does not
On a lobby floor, a stair flight or a corridor the speckle is invisible at walking distance, and across a few hundred square metres the saving is substantial. On a kitchen island, a reception desk or anything else people stand over and look down at, the speckle becomes visible and Absolute Black or Black Galaxy is the better answer.
It also takes a slightly softer polish than Absolute Black, which works in its favour underfoot: fewer visible swirl marks, and scratches from grit tracked in on shoes show less.
Treads, risers and large floors
For stair treads, specify the nosing profile and the anti-slip treatment together. A fully polished tread is a hazard, and a flamed or bush-hammered strip set back from the nosing is the usual detail.
For large floors, send the room dimensions rather than a slab count. Laying the cuts out across a bundle wastes far less stone than cutting to a nominal size and trimming on site, and that difference shows up in the quotation.
What to specify when you order
- Room or elevation dimensions rather than a slab count
- Thickness, and whether tiles are to be calibrated
- Finish, and for treads the anti-slip detail and nosing profile
- Whether the run must be sequenced from one block
- Packing, and the crate weights your site can lift
